The Oath
“The Oath” is a composition which won a contest to appear in Tolpuddle! the Musical, a show being developed by Walk-on Part Productions in Montgomery, AL.
Tolpuddle! The Musical is inspired by the true story of the Tolpuddle Martyrs, six humble English farm workers who emerge from tragedy to triumph. In March 1834, after a notorious rigged court trial for organizing trade union activities in the Dorset village of Tolpuddle, they are unjustly sentenced to transportation to Australia for seven years. Unbroken, they eventually return to England to take control of their own destiny.
A hymn to the power of solidarity, “The Oath” depicts the oath of loyalty that the six men take to their union.
